Omnath, Locus of Creation – Ultima Landfall – Commander Deck Tech – Command Valley

Its Friday and only one week away from the prerelease for Zendikar Rising! But no fear we have plenty of decks and content for you and today is no exception! This week I have been feeling creative, in fact creative enough to build deck around Omnath, Locus of Creation. This is by far my absolutely favorite landfall deck since Golos, Tireless Pilgrim!

The power of this deck is no joke. Landfall effects are argued as one of the best in magic as a whole, as you are being rewarded for something you are already doing, playing lands! We have seen Omnath before 3 different times but now we have the addition of white to our deck which is amazing for not only landfall but REMOVAL. So let’s just jump in to our all but black, landFULL creation!

Over the course of MTG history landfall has been a very popular mechanic, and some of the strongest effects come from playing lands. Best of all these effects come in all colors so the addition of white to Omnath makes a big difference!

Lotus Cobra – The best reprint in my opinion from Zendikar Rising, a landfall trigger that adds one mana of any color to your mana pool!

Vinelasher Kudzu – Our first lettuce friend that gets a +1 counter for each land that comes into play!

Scute Swarm – A new card from ZNR that can copy itself when you have 6 or more lands! Get ready for this card to get absolutely out of hand very quickly!

Tireless Tracker – Even though clues are not the best card draw, the fact that this creature gives us one for playing lands, shows the power and utility of landfall.

Undergrowth Champion – Similar to Vinelasher Kudzu however he saves himself from damage by removing only one +1 counter.

Omnath Locus of Rage, and Omnath Locus of the Roil – We’ve included both these Omnaths into the deck becuase they both are incredible landfall effects. Rage gives us 5/5 creatures and Roil gives us card draw, both absolutely things we want.

Nesting Dragon – The most popular landfall dragon that gives us dragons eggs that turn into 2/2 dragons for E V E R Y LAND. Wild.

Tatyova, Benthic Druid – A simple card for every land we play and also one life, but we have her for the card draw.

Moruag, Fury of Akoum – My personal favorite new card from ZNR that gives us extra combat steps for each land. You read that right. EXTRA COMBAT STEPS. Play a land, cast Harrow, and now you have 3 Extra combat steps. Wild.

Roil Elemental – This landfall trigger allows us to take control of creatures until it leaves the battlefield

Avenger of Zendikar – How could we not include our favorite Lettuce man. You will never be disappointed by the power of this vegetarian machine.

Seer’s Sundial – An artifact that can draw us cards when we play lands by paying 2 generic.

Valakut Exploration – A really exciting card from ZNR that gives us impulsive draw for each land as well as extra damage if we don’t play those cards at EOT!

Other Landfall cards:

Land Synergies

The cards in this category are not landfall effects, but cards that want us to have lots of lands, or reward us for for having lands. At some point in the deck we are going to run out of basic lands to find with out ramp, but we also have a way out of that. In this section there is also cards that can return lands to our hand to make sure we can play it again to get even more landfall triggers!

Dragonmaster Outcast – Once we have six lands, this creature will give us a 5/5 dragon every one of our upkeeps!

Scute Mob – At the beginning of our upkeep if we control five or more lands it gets 5 +1 counters!

Boduka Gardener // Dokai, Weaver of Life – Helps us ramp and when he flips we can create elemental with power of toughness equal to the lands we control.

Ancient Greenwarden – a 5/7 with reach, lets us play land cards from our graveyards. AND doubles every single landfall effect we have!

Returning lands to our hand

All of these cards can return lands back to our hands and give us extra advantage when we do so. The synergy is just immense. Mina and Denn is going to also allow us to play multiple lands per turn and when we return lands we can give a creature trample which is actually very relevant as we will have some big creatures to beat down our opponents.

Ramp and Land Accelerators

Now on to the next most important part of the deck. Getting lands on the battlefield!

You may be thinking, wow Griff, that is a lot of ramp. FOOL, there is never enough ramp… However for this deck we want lots of ramp not only to ramp into our big spells but the more lands we got on the battlefield per turn, the more triggers we get on our landfall abilities.

The deck is very simple in nature. Ramp, play your landfall creatures and ramp some more, and let the deck take you to the finish line. This deck is a massive amount of fun and can go crazy very quickly.

The last thing we will go through is the card draw and the removal. As pillars in every deck we have many ways of drawing cards.
